In 6 Tagen startet unsere Konferenz „Zugang gestalten!“ im Jüdischen Museum Berlin! Heute stellen wir Cédric Manara vor, der mit einem Impulsreferat den Block „Rechtliche Rahmenbedingungen“ am Nachmittag des zweiten Konferenztages einleiten wird.

Background

Dr. Cédric Manara has lost his hair teaching, writing or consulting. He has been a full time law professor at EDHEC Business School (France) and held visitorships in Finland, Italy, Japan and the USA, published a lot on intellectual property and internet legal issues, and also was a consultant for e-commerce companies or law firms. He recently joined Google’s legal team as copyright counsel.

At the conference

Cédric Manara will address key topics including the shrinking of the public domain and current legislation that is leading to what he terms a “cultural black hole”. He will also make the case for more flexibility in copyright law and take a look into the recent landmark Google Books decision in New York which ruled Google’s book scanning project as fair use under copyright law.

In den kommenden Tagen bis zur Konferenz „Zugang gestalten!“ am 28. & 29. November 2013 stellen wir Ihnen in loser Folge die Referenten unserer Veranstaltung vor. Den Anfang macht Lizzy Jongma, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam.

Background

Lizzy Jongma (1970) works as a datamanager in the Collections information department of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. She studied History at the University of Nijmegen (Netherlands) and specialized in digitization, automation of structured metadata and online presentation of Cultural Heritage. Lizzy has worked as a developer, adviser and project leader in this field since 1998. She now works on sharing, structuring and linking digital collection information: the Rijksmuseum API (sharing collection information as open data), the Rijksmuseum Open Data Policies, Rijksmuseum’s Rijksstudio Website, the New Object Description Manual (implementation of quality controlled collection annotation), Annotation Tool (connecting structured metadata to the Collection management System), Rijksmuseum Persistent Identifiers, and Accurator (niche source project).

Lizzy Jongma also works on structuring metadata for sharing collection information with portalsites like Europeana and ArtStor and is currently working on Rijksmuseum Linked Open Data.

Lizzy Jongma is an Open Data advocate and speaks frequently about the importance of Being Open (for Cultural hertitage Institutions).

At the conference

Lizzy will participate on the panel discussing the role of GLAM institutions shaping the digital access. At the beginning of the panel she will speak about why and how the Rijksmuseum shaped its access under a free license. The panel is scheduled for 28th of November after the lunch break.

Additionally Lizzy will be presenting the API that both runs the Rijkstudio for the website’s visitors but also enables institutions such as Europeana or Wikimedia Commons to harvest in large scale the Rijksmuseum’s collection for further use. The presentation of the projects will also take place in the afternoon of the 28th of November, after the above mentioned panel discussion (and a coffee break).
